The Doors was an American rock band, formed in Los Angeles (California), in July 1965 and dissolved in 1973. Along with Jefferson Airplane, Grateful Dead and Pink Floyd, they became one of the exponents of psychedelia from the 60s.

Although The Doors' run ended in 1973, their popularity has persisted.1 According to the RIAA, they have sold 33 million certified units in the United States. The band has sold more than 100 million albums worldwide.2 In 2004, Rolling Stone ranked The Doors 41 on its list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time.3

Ray Manzarek and Robby Krieger have toured as "Manzarek-Krieger" - for legal reasons, "Ray Manzarek and Robby Krieger from The Doors" - exclusively performing songs from the original group. The Doors were the first American band to accumulate eight consecutive gold records. In 1993, The Doors were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.2
