Hello all Chess Pros members! You can probably tell what this is about based on it's title. After much discussion, the admins of this group have decided to form the 1st Chess Pros Online Chess Championship.

How does it work? Well, for starters, it is not a tournament created through the chess.com tournaments system, which means that all non-paying members who are already playing in a chess.com tournament will be able to play.

Below are more details:

1. Tournament Format

The tournament will consist of groups of 4-10, depending on how many players sign up. The groups will be organized by rating. All players in each group will play ALL OTHER players in the group only ONCE. Thus, the winner of the first group will be crowned Chess Pros champion, the winner of the second group will be crowned Chess Pros Division 2 Champion, and so on. To give lower rated players a chance to challenge themselves by playing for higher sections, the winner of each lower group will automatically be seeded into the next higher division for the next tournament. For example, the winner of the 2nd group will automatically qualify for the 1st group the next tournament, if they want to play.

2. Tournament Pairings

After the round robin pairings are sent out, the players will be required to START their games within a week by sending ONLINE CHESS challenges to their respective opponents. Chess.com will automate the color for each game.

After the games are started, the players will then be REQUIRED to POST THE URL of their game to a forum in the Chess Pros group, to validate the result of their game once it is finished.

Once the tournament has finished, the next tournament will start right after.

FAQ:

What if my opponent doesn't accept my challenge?

Simply post in the Match Links forum (where you post the links of your ongoing games) the problem that you are facing, and we will message your opponent to find out what the problem is. If they do not accept your challenge or send you a challenge by ONE WEEK after your complaint, they will be forfeited and the point will be awarded to you.

Any unfair play will result in expulsion from the tournament, and automatic forfeiture of all games.
