1976   10th Place  MN STATE ELEMENTARY CH. (lost to CHAMPION MIKE NADITCH)

1977   2nd Place tie MN STATE ELEMENTARY REGION (4.5/5)  

1977   1st Place tie MN STATE ELEM INVITATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP (with TIM RADERMACHER)

1977   1st Place tie MN STATE ELEM CHAMPIONSHIP (6.5/7) (with DENNIS OLSON)

1977   1st Place Team THORSON Defeats heavy favorite LINCOLN ELEM. for State Elem. Title

1978   1st Place tie NSCC Championship.  Defeated PAUL SHANNON in game.

1978   1st Place tie MN STATE ELEMENTARY CH. (7/7) (with TIM RADERMACHER)

1978   1st Place tie NATIONAL ELEMENTARY CHAMP.  (7/8) (with STEPHEN TIERNEY)

            Only loss to future NM KEVIN JILES.

1978   Become 1st National Champ to be on the winning team (LINCOLN ELEM.)

1978   Appeared in SPORTS ILLUSTRATED (June) 

1978   Played Reporter from the MINNEAPOLIS STAR AND TRIBUNE.

1978   Appeared on the front page of the MINNEAPOLIS STAR AND TRIBUNE.

1978    Played the LT. Governors Secretary a game of chess.  

1978    CHESS LIFE TOP 50 LIST UNDER 13    

1978    Played 5th board for high school champion COOPER HIGH SCHOOL during league play.

1979    3rd Place tie MN JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP (undefeated in tourney) (3.5/5)  Draws with

    ROD KNASE and BARB PESKIN.

1979   1st Place tie MN JUNIOR HIGH STATE CHAMPIONSHIP with future NM BILL HARRISON

1979   8th Place NATIONAL JR. HIGH CH.  (Lost to future FM JOHN LITVINCHUK and 

    youngest Master in U.S. history, and to future NM KEVIN JILES.  Both finished 7-1).  

    Played speed chess with future GM MAXIM DLUGY gaining several draws.

1979   3rd Place tie at WORLD OPEN under 1600 section (loss to SANDEEP JOSHI)

1980   2nd Place tie MN JUNIOR HIGH STATE CH. 

1980   1st  Place tie NSCC Championship.

1980   3rd Place tie MN JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP (3.0/5) 

1980   8th Place NATIONAL JR. HIGH CH.  Finally gained a draw with future NM KEVIN JILES. 

1981   1st Place tie MN JUNIOR HIGH STATE CH. (NM TIM RADERMACHER also scored 7-0)

1981   3rd Place tie MN JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP.

1981   Played in World Open in New York.  Analyzed a game with GM PAL BENKO.

1982   2ND Place tie MN STATE HIGH SCHOOL (loss to NM BERT WILSON)

1982   U.S.JUNIOR OPEN.  Drew IM STUART RACHELS and NM JOHN JARECKI. 

    Youngest masters in U.S. history. Defeated FM ROBERT HAWKES. 

1982   1st Place tied U.S. OPEN Quad tourney-with GM BEN FINEGOLD and FM DOUG ECKERT 

1982   U.S. OPEN Quad-Drew game with future GM BEN FINEGOLD.

1982   U.S. OPEN Quad-Drew game with future FM DOUG ECKERT.

1982   Defeated U.S. Open CO-Champion IM WILLIAM MARTZ In a Simultaneous Game.

            (+1 -2 =1) record vs IM WILLIAM MARTZ IN SIMULS.

1983   2nd Place tie Minnesota State High School (Draw with NM MIKE GREEN)

1983   Lessons from GM EDMAR MEDNIS in Santa Clara CA.  ACF sponsored.  

1983   1st Place Speed Chess Tourney at the Edmar Mednis chess champ. FM IGOR STERN, 

            NM JOEY WAXMAN, NM TIM RADERMACHER, FM ROBBIE ADAMSON PLAYED.

1983   2nd Place U.S JUNIOR OPEN (5/6)    Defeated IM DANNY EDELMAN and NM

    ANDREW METRICK.   Draws FM PETER BEREOLOS and NM TIM RADERMACHER.

1984   2nd Place tie Minnesota State High School.  NM TIM RADERMACHER CHAMPION.

1984    Played 1st Board for High School Champion COOPER HIGH SCHOOL during league play.

1984    Co-NATIONAL Champion 2nd Board NATIONAL H/S  with FM PETER BEREOLOS (6/7)

     NM TIM RADERMACHER  scored an undefeated (5/7) playing 1st board.

1986    3rd place SEA SERVICE CH.   (1ST PLACE NM MEL ALSBURRY)

1986    3rd place ARMED FORCES CH.   Defeated 1985 Armed Forces Champ NM BOBBY

     MOORE and 1986 Armed Forces Champ NM RICHARD RUSSELL in tourney.

1986    1st Place Tie SAN DIEGO OPEN.  Drew game with IM CY LAKDAWALA  (4.5/5)

1986    CHESS LIFE TOP 50 LIST UNDER 21 (NM TIM RADERMACHER also made all 3 lists)

1986    Gained National Master Title.

1986    Nato Chess Participant. (Drew defending NATO champion FM CORDES and 2nd place

     finisher STORE. GM SIMEN AGDESTEIN and I undefeated in tourney).

             2nd highest American score with a  4-3 record.

1986    Played a 15 game simul at MECKLENBURG HIGH SCHOOL in Charlotte NC. 

1986   Played in a 50 game leapfrog Simul against the best young players in Charlotte NC.

1987    1st Place tie SEA SERVICE CH. 

1987    1st Place SEA SERVICE SPEED CHESS CH. 

1987    Drew IM EMORY TATE at the ARMED FORCES CHAMPIONSHIP.

1987    NATO Chess Participant  (4-3) Record.  3rd highest American score.

1987    Co-wrote the Amercian Introduction to the NATO Tourney book with NM Lane Teraoka.

1988   Gave simul on the USS TRUXTUN (CGN-35) during the Iran-Iraq War.

1988    1st Place tie SEA SERVICE CH.

1988    1st Place SEA SERVICE SPEED CHESS CH. 

1988    Armed Forces--Won game judged most interesting of tourney vs NM James Lank

1989    Drew FM CURT BRASKET at the 1989 Winter Carnival Tournament. 

 1989   1st place tie in the 1989 Region Six Tournament.  

1989    1st Place tie NORTHERN OPEN with NM Jeff Dahl.  Drew individual game. (undefeated)

1990    2nd Place MN EXHURBAN CHAMPIONSHIP (undefeated.  Draw with FM JACK YOOS)

1991    Reached MN Closed Playoffs.  Gained draws with FM JACK YOOS and FM ED ZELKIND.

1991    1st Place in TCCL with team of Tim Radermacher, R.K. Johnson and Charles Monson.

2002   Drew IM VICTOR ADLER in a game at the MN Class Championship.

2003   Drew IM JOHN BARTHOLOMEW and FM Leonard Johnson at the MN Closed Playoffs.

2003   Awarded Gil Koelsche Best Played Game at MN Open vs. Bill Murray.

            Lost game to IM KEATON KIEWRA at MN Open who also won the Gil Koelsche award.                                                                           

2015    Drew GM ANDREW TANG at the MN Open. (was IM at time of the game)

2015    Drew FM KEVIN WASILUK at the MN Open.

2017    Qualified for newly formed Under 2200 MN Closed playoffs.  Did not play.

2018    Reached MN Closed Playoffs-Drew FM KEVIN WASILUK and NM Ashton Jin.

2019     Reached MN Closed Playoffs-Drew NM ASHTON JIN.

2020     Qualified for Under 2200 MN Closed playoffs.  

              2nd Place tie in Closed Playoffs with an undefeated score (0-0-5)  5 Draws!
